can crystals go in water for bath rituals?

Can crystals go in water?

First things first, let’s answer the most important question: can crystals go in water? The answer is yes, but it depends on the crystal. Some crystals are perfectly safe to use in water, while others can be damaged or even dissolve when exposed to water.

Generally speaking, crystals that have a hardness level of 5 or higher on the Mohs scale are safe to use in water. This includes crystals like amethyst, rose quartz, and clear quartz. These crystals have properties that make them suitable for use in water, such as the ability to conduct energy and the ability to absorb and release minerals.

However, some crystals should not be used in water.  Crystals that have a low hardness level or are porous can dissolve or become damaged when exposed to water.  Some are even toxic, so be very careful!

Crystals that are NOT water-safe:

  • Selenite (will dissolve/be damaged)
  • Calcite **toxic!
  • Celestite  **toxic!
  • Pyrite **toxic!
  • Halite **toxic!

While it’s important to avoid using these crystals in water, there are still plenty of other crystals to choose from when creating your crystal bath ritual. Stick with crystals that have a hardness level of 5 or higher, and you should be good to go!

Crystals That CAN go in Water:

  • Clear quartz
  • Amethyst
  • Rose quartz
  • Citrine
  • Aquamarine
  • Green aventurine
  • Red jasper

Keep in mind that this is not an exhaustive list and that the safety of a crystal in water can also depend on factors such as its quality, size, and shape. It’s always a good idea to research the specific crystal you plan on using to ensure that it’s safe for use in water.

It’s also important to note that crystal elixirs, which involve soaking crystals in water to create a drinkable solution, can be harmful if not prepared properly. I do not recommend making a crystal elixir by physically putting a crystal in the water that you intend to drink.

Instead, you can fill a bottle with water, and place crystals around it that you want to energetically charge your water with.  Let them sit beside your water for a few minutes to fuse their energy into the water, and then you can safely drink your crystal vibe-infused drink!

In short, yes, crystals can go in water, but it’s important to choose the right crystals and use them safely to avoid damaging the crystal or harming yourself.

Benefits of crystal baths

Now that we’ve covered which crystals are safe to use in water, let’s talk about the benefits of using them in a bath ritual. Crystals have been used for thousands of years for their healing properties, and adding them to your bathwater can enhance the benefits of your self-care routine.

When you soak in a crystal bath, the energy and vibrations of the crystals combine with the healing properties of the water to create a powerful and rejuvenating experience. Each crystal has its own unique properties, so you can choose the crystal that aligns with your intentions and desired outcomes.

For example, if you’re looking to promote relaxation and calm, you might choose to use amethyst or rose quartz. If you’re looking to boost your energy and confidence, you can try citrine.

In addition to the specific properties of each crystal, the act of taking a bath itself can also have numerous benefits for your physical and mental health. Bathing in warm water can help to relax your muscles, reduce stress, and improve circulation.

Adding essential oils or herbs to your bathwater can also provide additional therapeutic benefits, and maximize the woo-woo wellness.

The Right Crystal for Your Bath Ritual

Now that we’ve talked about the benefits of crystal baths in general, let’s take a closer look at the specific properties of some common crystals used in bath rituals:

🔮Clear quartz: Known as the “master healer,” clear quartz is a powerful crystal that can amplify the energy of other crystals and promote clarity and balance.

🔮Amethyst: Amethyst is a calming crystal that can promote relaxation and restful sleep. It’s also known for its ability to enhance intuition and spiritual awareness.

🔮Rose quartz: Often called the “love stone,” rose quartz is associated with the heart chakra and can promote self-love, compassion, and emotional healing.

🔮Citrine: Citrine is a bright and energizing crystal that’s often used to promote creativity, abundance, and positivity. It’s also associated with the solar plexus chakra and can help to boost confidence and self-esteem.

🔮Green Aventurine: Green aventurine helps to release old habits and prompts future growth.  It’s perfect for a bath ritual meant to “wash away” old energies and start fresh.

These are just a few examples of the many crystals you can use in your bath ritual. As mentioned earlier, the specific benefits of each crystal can vary, so it’s important to choose the crystal that aligns with your intentions and desired outcomes.

Additionally, it’s important to properly cleanse and charge your crystals before using them in a bath to ensure that you’re getting the maximum benefit.

How to Create a Crystal Bath Ritual

Now that you have an idea of which crystals can go in water and their benefits, let’s talk about how to safely use them. Here’s a step-by-step guide to creating a crystal bath ritual:

Select your crystals: Choose the crystal or crystals that align with your intentions for your bath. You can choose one crystal or a combination of several, depending on what you’re looking to achieve.

⭐Cleanse your crystals: Before using your crystals in your bath, it’s important to cleanse them of any negative or unwanted energy. You can do this by holding them under running water for a few seconds or passing them through smoke from sage or palo santo.

⭐Charge your crystals: Once your crystals are cleansed, it’s time to charge them with your intentions. You can do this by holding them in your hands and focusing on your desired outcome, or by placing them in the moonlight for a few hours (do this the night before your bath so they’ll be ready).

Prepare your bath: Fill your bathtub with warm water and add any additional ingredients, such as essential oils, herbs (keep loose herbs wrapped in cheesecloth so it doesn’t make a mess of your tub), or candles (placed safely on the sides of your tub).

Add your crystals: Once your bath is ready, add your crystals to the water. You can place some around the edge of your tub too to help create ambiance.

Soak and relax: Get into the tub and soak in the crystal-infused water for at least 20-30 minutes. Use this time to focus on your intentions and allow the energy of the crystals to work their magic.

⭐Remove and store your crystals: After your bath, take your crystals out and rinse them off with clean running water.  Gently pat them dry and store them in a safe and dry place until your next use.

Tips for creating a peaceful environment for your crystal bath:

Dim the lights: Soft lighting can help to create a relaxing and calming atmosphere. You can use candles, dimmer switches, or put string lights up in your bathroom to create a warm and cozy ambiance.

Play soothing music: Choose music that promotes relaxation and calmness. You can create a playlist of your favorite songs or use a streaming service to find pre-made relaxation playlists or guided meditations.

Use aromatherapy: Essential oils can help to enhance the benefits of your crystal bath and promote relaxation. You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (diluted in a carrier oil) to your bathwater or use an aromatherapy diffuser or a scented candle in the room.

Declutter the space: Before taking your crystal bath, make sure the bathroom is clean and free of clutter. This can create a peaceful and calming environment and minimize distractions.

Use comfortable towels and robes: After your bath, wrap yourself in a soft and cozy towel or robe. This can help to extend relaxation and promote a sense of comfort and well-being.

Important safety tips to keep in mind when using crystals in water:

Only use crystals that are safe for water

Not all crystals are safe to use in water, as some may dissolve, rust, or release harmful chemicals. Refer to my earlier list of crystals that are safe for water use, and avoid using any others.

Cleanse and charge your crystals before use

It’s important to cleanse and charge your crystals before using them in a bath ritual. This will help to remove any negative energies or impurities and enhance their positive properties.

Be mindful of any allergies

If you have any allergies to certain types of crystals, avoid using them in your bath. Additionally, if you experience any adverse reactions or discomfort during or after the bath, stop using the crystals immediately.

Don’t leave crystals in the bath water for too long

While it’s safe to place certain crystals in bath water, you should avoid leaving them in for extended periods. This can cause the crystals to deteriorate or release harmful substances.

Be cautious when holding wet crystals

Crystals can be slippery when wet, so be careful when putting them in and taking them out of the bath to avoid any accidents.

By following these safety tips, you can ensure that your crystal bath ritual is both enjoyable and safe. Remember to always use caution and common sense when working with crystals and water.
